My University Days: Part 3 ("TATENOKAWA" Newspaper 10/10/2012)
I tried to attend my university lectures every day, but there were also days when I couldn’t wake-up in the morning so would only go in in the afternoon, or lectures that I wasn’t interested in and so skipped and went out eating with friends instead —you could say that I wasn’t very studious.
On the other hand, my overall attendance was reasonable enough, and just before a test, friends would always pass around past questions to study (might be more accurate to say memorise) so I managed to gain a decent amount of credits. When I look back now, there are of course areas where I think I should have studied harder: between my first and third year the percentage of time spent studying was 20%, playing around 40% and part-time job 40%.
In the second half of my first year at university, I started working part-time at the Sapporo Beer Hall in Shinjuku. It is still located just behind Mitsukoshi — I loved beer so it was an easy decision. I worked about 4 times a week— I remember Shinjuku being a very busy place to be. Friday and Saturday were on another level of busy. They were so busy that tankards would get knocked over in my tray; sometimes beer would end up over the customer’s heads. (sweats)
