Our “KODAKARA” DAIGINJO PLUM WINE had been chosen out of over 250 hopefuls and landed in a stunning 10th position. Please see the last issue for the full story.

Well, I say stunning, but it would probably be more accurate to use the word edgy. I myself never imagined that we would make it through the qualification so it really was a shock. The judging system was the type where votes are collected from visitors to the contest so it made me think that perhaps our “KODAKARA” liqueurs had gained a bit of recognition.

So onto the final stage we went. This was where things got serious; where through a blind tasting a professional gave each entry points. Once the final judging was complete, we received a phone call requesting our attendance at the award ceremony.

Without knowing the outcome, as was the policy of the contest organisers, I flew off straight to Osaka with my wife and my one and a half year old daughter, if anything to take a breather from sake making.
